Great little 2-star hotel in centre of Cannes

hotel Close to Palais, fair prices

Hotel PLM cannesThe ability to find a humble 2-star hotel in the centre of Cannes has changed a lot since I first started travelling. Although the Hotel PLM sports only two stars, what you get is a comfortable stay in the centre of town, and therefore close to both the Palais and railway station.

Location was the first reason I considered the Hotel PLM. I very much prefer taking public transport to Cannes, either the train or the express coach (which arrives at the station anyway). At one block away, you are close to the station without the constant noise of traffic. The PLM is also about 5 minutes away from the Palais des festivals and the Croisette. So for location, it gets five stars.

The 2-star hotel itself offers a modest, yet clean and comfortable stay. A small lift serves the 5 floors. The room I stayed in was small with a large comfortable bed and an ensuite bathroom with shower (not all rooms are ensuite). There was good water pressure and the water was quickly hot. There was also a wardrobe and TV. That’s about it in terms of features.

Note that no-one is at reception in the evening, so you have to check in at their sister hotel a little further down the street if you get in late and also ring a bell to enter at night. This was not a problem during my stay.

Rue Hoche is in the heart of the restaurant and shopping area of Cannes. The nearby Monoprix supermarket in particular has everything a traveller could need.

The only real issue was noise. The rooms have double-glazed windows. When I opened them, the sound of the air conditioning on the hotel across the street was very noticeable as it was at eye level. But then again, I could have just shut the windows. On one night I was also woken by a flock of particularly noisy seagulls.

None of these would stop me from staying again at the PLM, whose cleaning and reception staff were very pleasant. Overall, I recommend it strongly for people looking for a good-value, practical hotel in Cannes.
