With a portfolio that goes from the New York Post to MySpace, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation has managed to maintain a leading role in media across many platforms. The ad agency Young & Rubicam has invited Murdoch to address the Cannes Lions, most likely on how the media industry is changing and in particular the rise of new media.
The worldwide chief creative officer of JWT, Craig Davis, has been nominated president for the Film and Press jury at the Cannes Lions 2008. “The fact that Craig has experienced different cultures, is in a global leadership position and has demonstrated a clear track record of creative achievement makes him ideally suited to be the Cannes Film and Press jury [...]
Interesting post from an assistant brand manager of Campbell Company of Canada. Although largely an agency get-together, some brands send teams to Cannes to check the latest trends. Nicolle Nordmann, I must say, seems to be doing it diligently (remember what I said yesterday: some people come to work) as she has been sitting through full days of screenings – [...]
From running Cannes or Bust for some time now, I can see a very definite pattern. Journalists globally feel obliged to mention the parties, the beach and the excess. It’s as if editors worldwide wouldn’t believe people come here for something other than a “jolly”. But I’ve got news for them: work does actually get done here! Imagine that! So [...]
Award-winning Richard Rosen will discuss his method of converging branding and direct marketing at the 54th International Advertising Festival in Cannes from June 17. “The essential link between marketing and branding is uppermost in everyone’s minds now,” said Alastair Tempest, director general of the Federation of European Direct and Interactive Marketing (FEDMA). “This seminar will be the keynote within the [...]
I almost forgot to mention this little gem. The Cannes Lions, Shots magazine and the City of Cannes ran a competition for a campaign to encourage visitors to come back to Cannes. The fun part was they were given a super-duper Nokia phone and Apple editing software and told to come back in three days with the film. The winners, [...]
According to a report on BrandRepublic, Cannes Lion CEO Penny Reid is stepping down from the job for personal reasons. Reid had taken the position only last January, taking over when terry Savage became executive chairman. A new CEO is being sought.
According to a report on their site, entries for this year’s Cannes Lions festival are up 12.5%. Although film and direct entries are down by almost 3% and 7% respectively, entries in the titanium, media and cyber categories have grown by 52%, 36% and 32% respectively. According to the British magazine Shots, this is due to “advertisers [seeking] different ways [...]
I’m a sucker for a good seminar. The best ones should offer stimulating debate and the feeling that you can go out and change the world in a month. OK, it’s rarely quite like that in reality. But this year’s Cannes Lions (June 18-24 2006) has a few seminars that could be interesting. Who could resist: “How Great Ideas Work [...]
