MIDEM 2010: 3 money-saving deadlines on October 31

Midem people should keep an eye on the date of October 31. If you haven’t signed up yet, this is the last day to get the Early Bird rate of €675 (+VAT), which represents a discount of €450 on the walk-in rate in January. October 31 is also the cut-off date for getting the new MIDEM+ rate of €300 (instead of €400). MIDEM+ offers select participants the chance of getting personalised consultancy from top new business experts and personal network introductions from people such as Ted Cohen.

Lastly, if you attended last year, October 31 is also the last day you will be able to access the MidemWorld database. The new database will start to be implemented the day after, becoming functional again on November 3. So if you have been meaning to connect with any people through the database, it’s now or never. Incidentally, if you are looking to reduce the overall cost of Midem, there are a few deals you should be aware of. People that attended last year can bring extra people this year and pay 30% less for each additional participant. MIPCOM: don’t miss the early bird rate

MIPCOM, October 5-9 2009

July 30 2009 is the cut-off date for signing up to MIPCOM’s early bird rate of €860 + VAT, a saving of 34% on the walk-in rate. This year’s event will be held October 5-9 and will feature – among other things – a special Games2TV2Games summit. The site bills this as a “full-day showcase [that] will expose the most promising business models in casual and hardcore gaming that are blurring the lines between TV, social networks, games and virtual worlds, giving you a competitive edge for new properties and a global platform to cut new deals.”

MIDEM announces dates, offers MidemNet for free

MIDEM, the leading international music market, today announced the dates for the 44th edition with a major announcement. Recognising the degree to which digital is now an integral part of the music business at every level, it is offering access to the renowned MidemNet conferences to all participants.

This is a major innovation, as access to MidemNet required a separate entrance fee. It has been sold out for a number of years each time, with labels and telcos congregating to discover ways of monetising digital and networking. Speakers have included Nokia, YouTube, Google and many others.

Other innovations at MIDEM include a MidemNet Lab in the heart of the tradefloor that will showcase 15 of the most innovative companies in the digital sphere.

Cannes Film Market: don't miss the early bird deadline

Anyone planning on attending the Cannes Film Market, which takes place during the festival, should look out for the first early bird rate on March 1. Book before that date and you will pay just €286. The following rate is €317 (deadline: April 29), while the walk-in rate is €386.

Midem: book now and save

Midem, the world’s music community that will run its annual trade fair January 17-21, has a number of deadlines that allow participants to enjoy generous savings. The next one is Oct 15, after which the entrance fee goes from €625 to €745. If you include attendance at MidemNet, the prices are €1,115 against €1,285. Last year, some 9,000 people attended Midem, which is widely recognised as the foremost trade fair of its kind.

In other Midem news, Charles Aznavour (photo) is to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award in January. Aznavour has written more than 800 songs, many of which have been interpreted by the world’s greatest artists (Fred Astaire, Shirley Bassey, Ray Charles, Elvis Costello, Bobby Darin, Sammy Davis Junior, Juliette Gréco, Liza Minnelli, Edith Piaf and Nina Simone to name but a few). He has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, and his career as an actor, which he began in the theatre at the age of nine, includes more than 60 films, including “The Tin Drum,” winner of the Palme d’Or at the Festival de Cannes in 1979.

Midem deadline fast approaching

If you’re thinking about attending Midem in Cannes this year, don’t wait too long to decide. The Early Bird deadline is on December 21. The price of €805 represents a 25% discount over the walk-in rate. I also did a quick check with hotels and airlines. Most of the hotels in the inner “banana” (the area closest to the Palais in Cannes) are booked. However there are still rooms available in the “residences” outside town at reasonable prices. Shuttle buses are available to reach these. Some cheap flights can still be booked (although I only checked the European airlines flying to Nice airport).

MIDEM: Don't miss the early bird rate

In the run-up to Christmas, it’s easy to miss out on important deadlines. You still have two weeks (until December 19) to sign up for Midem at the early bird rate of €780, a saving of over 25%.

I see there is an interesting Cuban presence this year. The conferences include an debate on the influence of brands on the music biz, how/if digital and online are changing A&R and Impala discussions about the future for indies.
