It hardly comes as a surprise: MIDEM 2021 will be totally digital again this year, with a return to the town of Cannes scheduled for June 2022. Launched in June 2020, MIDEM Digital already has 12,500 active members that can access exclusive information, streaming appointments and other on-demand content throughout the year. The new event will be held November 16-19, 2021.

This decision echoes those taken by many other professional events in different sectors. It nonetheless gives the music business event and its members the opportunity to get a stronger understanding of how to do business in the digital age. It is globally recognized that networking – like the show – must go on. The challenge will be in getting the new generation of music professionals on board while also catering to those that are more used to Midem’s face-to-face format. The event first kicked off in 1967 to coincide with Italy’s San Remo song festival.

Keeping the community connected

“Since the pandemic has affected us all, we have taken our role to keep the global community connected, informed, engaged and forward-looking,” according to Alexandre Deniot, Director of Midem. “Midem Digital has allowed us to be present throughout the year, to help us all better understand the new context in which we find ourselves and to navigate together in this new reality.”

Following the success of the Midem Latin American Forum on March 11 and 12, 2021 on Midem Digital, Midem will launch two new events on its platform:  Midem Africa, the world’s first pan-African digital event for music professionals, and Midem Digital Edition. These premium online events will be organized around the specific themes and needs of the sector.

Midem Africa, June 28-July 1, 2021

Midem Africa, the world’s first-ever pan-African digital event for music professionals, is dedicated to the continent’s most dynamic industry sectors. Focused over 4 days, the event will map the music industry in Africa, highlight trends and opportunities in different territories, and provide essential information and practical tools to facilitate networking and accelerate careers and business between key local players and their regional and international counterparts.
