The intention of MIPCOM to add new producers hub to the October events is a signal that many people have been wanting to hear. All industries have suffered from the Covid-imposed restrictions on trade fairs. As well as announcing a new edition in 2022, MIPCOM Is also underlining why trade fairs are important by bringing a key part of the content market mix – the producers – face-to-face.
Even though we all got used to “jumping” on Zoom/Team/Skype chats, nothing could possibly match the intimacy and shared experience of a face-to-face meeting. And it looks as though producers will have a lot of talking to do. Huge changes in the market will have to be gauged and considered. Changes in management teams, moves among distributors and the inevitable waltz between artists and agents will mean changes in formats, schedules and priorities.
This should give rise to some fascinating discussions. The Mipcom Seaview Producers Hub aims to become the annual business venue and fresh meeting point in Cannes for all those involved in production and co-productions worldwide
Producers hub in a buoyant market
The other – perhaps bigger – news is that MIPCOM is bullish about the 2022 event. More than 200 exhibitors have already signed up, with another month or so to go.
The confirmed exhibitors include ITV Studios, The Jim Henson Company, Kanal D International, KBS Media, Keshet International, Lionsgate, M6, MarVista Entertainment/Fox Entertainment, Mattel, Mediapro, Mercury Studios, NBCUniversal International, Netflix, Newen Connect and Nippon Television Network, among many others.
They will enjoy the re-opened outdoor pavilions along the famed Croisette and beside the Palais itself.
