The Rencontres Cinématographique de Cannes 2024 (Cannes Film Meetings) are an unmissable event in the French audiovisual landscape, bringing together film professionals, directors, producers, distributors and film enthusiasts. The original idea was not just to screen movies, but to promote exchanges and collaboration between industry players and the audience. Held every year in Cannes, the iconic city of world cinema, thanks in particular to its famous festivals, the festival is unique in its genre.
The festival will run from November 18-24, 2024.
The event notably offers a platform for the discovery of new talents and innovative projects. The programme includes conferences, workshops and film screenings that allow participants to discuss current and future trends in cinema. The Rencontres also highlight various themes, such as new technologies, digital distribution, and environmental issues related to film production.
Cannes: an inspiring setting
The Cannes Film Meetings promote networking and partnerships. Professionals have the opportunity to meet in an inspiring setting, conducive to creativity and the exchange of ideas. Dedicated project pitch spaces allow filmmakers to showcase their works in development, attracting the attention of potential investors and collaborators.
In 2024, the feature films in competition were selected by Pierre de Gardebosc, Gérard Camy and Aurélie Ferrier. These are eight international feature films, in preview screenings and awarded at other festivals in France and abroad and in competition for the prizes of the 37th Rencontres: the RCC Grand Prize; the François Chalais Prize for Screenplay; and the Audience Award.
It is an opportunity to discover original perspectives and unknown worlds, to engage in original reflections, to understand different ways of life and thought. In previous editions, the audience of the Cannes Film Meetings has been able to see previews of films that have been internationally successful when they were released in theaters. Among the eight “unknown” films this year, there is undoubtedly one of the great films of tomorrow.
The Rencontres will take place In eight cinemas in the city of Cannes and Le Cannet (Miramar, La Licorne, Les Arcades, Cineum Cannes, l’Olympia, Cinétoile Rocheville, and Le Cannet Toiles, Théâtre Croisette). The organisers invite the audience to “DISCOVER many films (previews, tributes, carte blanches…), MEET film professionals, SHARE your impressions during the many discussions.”
