Tax-free and travel fair
The countdown for the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference, the annual forum for the duty free & travel retail industry, is running. The annual event, which will run from October 18 to 23 October in the Palais des Festivals, Cannes, provides a showcase for brands and products of more than 460 exhibiting companies that target airports, airlines, ferries, cruise lines, downtown, offshore and border shops all over the world.
Visitors to the show include landlords and buyers of the duty free & travel retail outlets, and other interested parties. An online product catalogue will feature some of the highlights of the show, many of which are limited editions that have been designed especially for travellers.
Focus on Middle East and Africa
Although Asia has held duty free and travel retail’s attention recently, overtaking Europe as the largest region by sales while its travellers shape airport and downtown retail around the world, it’s actually the Middle East and Africa that are showing the strongest growth at present. In terms of turnover, it does not yet rival Asia. But the fact that Dubai replaced Heathrow as the world’s busiest airport for international traffic clearly shows that the picture is changing fast.
The MEADFA conference the will draw on the experience of His Excellency Akel Biltaji, Mayor of Amman, former Jordanian Minister of Tourism & Antiquities and long-time senior executive at Royal Jordanian Airlines. He will address the travel and tourism landscape in Jordan and beyond. Fellow keynote speaker Tim Sebastian, founder of the BBC’s Doha Debates, chair of the Arab Debates on Deutsche Welle TV and acknowledged expert on regional geopolitics, will analyse the prospects for growth against a background of change.
Given the recent news, this could be a very interesting discussion.
