A few years back, Midem had the idea of putting the spotlight on the talent that is at the core of the event’s business. The Midem Artist Accelerator is designed to support managers, agents, labels and publishers as they look to grow their artists’ profiles globally.
New music at Midem 2016
Out of 500 submissions, the selection committee chose 12 upcoming international talents that will receive learning and coaching sessions with leaders of the international music industry and the opportunity to play a live set at Midem and have their song featured on Midem’s communications, as well as on the Midem Artist Accelerator Official Compilation.
The final selection can be found here. Stream it to see what is catching the ear of A&R execs right now. Or, trust my ageing ears and go for the Cannes or Bust MAA shortlist below. Either way, support new music.
Synapson (FR) are listed as EDM, although I don’t know why. It’s an intriguing light rock track with a stunning video (but don’t forget this is about the music!).
Malky (D) are coming on the back of a very soulful song called “Diamonds”. I really like this.
Flo Morrissey (US) sings a languorous folk-tinged ballad called “If You Can’t Love This all Goes Away”. For fans of Lana Del Rey.
Far From Alaska (Brazil) are one of my favourites, with a plain steam-rolling Southern rock track called “Politiks”.
Now go check the full line-up and let me know who I absolutely missed!
Koo Nkatra (Ghana). I’m throwing this in as a joker for the fun as I worked in African rap for a while. This is not the best example, but it’s an interesting scene.
How about Britrockers Bellevue? You definitely missed them.
