For the 51st time, Midem will be back at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes next year. The dates are June 6-9, 2017.
Midem is now the longest-running music business event of its kind. Along with the industry it serves, it has changed massively over the past 15 years. Two main differences could be noted:
- first, services have become far more important over the years. These obviously include the huge number of digital services that are being used to compensate for the revenue lost due to the fall in physical sales;
- secondly, the artist/performer has become a major focus. For years, Midem was strictly a business event. Artists performed at evening shows, but the business was very largely run by businessmen. This also has changed over the years, as increasing numbers of artists now manage their own affairs. Midem is where they come to find licensors, services and exposure.
The one thing that has not changed over the years is the incredible international scale of Midem. Some 5,500 people from 75 countries attended in 2016, including delegations from Russia, China and India.
