Madness to headline Midem festival in Cannes

The British group Madness will headline the Midem festival to be held in Cannes in January 2013. Midem is the world’s most important music trade fair, but added its own festival to the line-up a year or two ago. It hosts a range of largely up -and-coming bands. But the veteran ska outfit Madness will be top of the bill in January 2013, following on their appearances at the British Jubilee Concert and the Olympic Games.

Festival and trade fair

Other acts to appear at the Midem festival and trade fair include the Israeli singer-songwriter and musician, Asaf Avidan, often referred to as “the lovechild of Dylan and Joplin” because of his exceptionally strong voice, the amazing French electro/urban music quartet C2C (see video), ranked #1 at the DMC World DJ Championships four times in a row (2003-2006 -watch the video to see why!), model/actress Lou Doillon (the half-sister of Charlotte Gainsbourg) and Belgian indie outfit (and Cannes or Bust tip) Balthazar. The goal is to provide a platform for some of the  most interesting acts out there at the moment, true to Midem’s policy of boosting new talent.

Along the same lines, musicians and bands can submit an original song and perhaps get the exclusive opportunity to perform on the Midem festival stage on the same bill as international headliners. This could potentially be a break for the right band. For details, visit Midemfestival.
